Business Travels: Thistle Johor Bahru Hotel

Due to the fact that I have a particular client in Johor, I travel down quite often and i’ve always stayed at the same place as I love the rooms and service provided (the door man recognises my face by now). The hotel is about 30mins away from Senai Airport on days without traffic. There’s a KFC just across the street and a McDonalds down the road. So location-wise, it’s pretty strategic. It’s also just a 5-10mins drive to the Immigration Checkpoint where you can cross over to Singapore which is also adjacent to two large shopping malls, Johor Bahru City Square and Komtar JBCC (home to brands such as H&M, Uniqlo, Padini, Vinci, Daiso, and many others).

I’ve also read somewhere that they have shuttle service to Johor Premium Outlet (JPO), Legoland and etc. Though I’m not sure about the schedule on that. You can try asking the front desk.

Room-wise, I usually take the Deluxe Straits View King/Twin Room. I booked the room sometime in end Nov 2016 through Agoda for RM381 per night. The room is spacious, and the bathrooms are clean and well equipped with all the necessary items. It also has a lovely view facing the pool below and the straits ahead.

One week later, I was back again but this time I booked the pricier Executive Room as the Deluxe Rooms were sold out on Agoda. Got the room for RM457 per night which included special access to the Executive Lounge, Business Area and the rooms were also situated on the higher floors offering better views of the straits.

Was very much in love with the decor for the room as it’s in my fav shade of purple and the soft lighting made it look really cozy. Also loved the mini CBTL coffee machine. Similar to the room mentioned earlier, this room also had the same view but on a higher floor.

Had my breakfast at the Lounge instead of the usual cafe downstairs and everything is so much more relaxing up here with fewer patrons around and you can slowly enjoy your meal with a great view. The selection is pretty much the same with breads, cereal, cut fruits, yoghurt, and a mix of other local and western cuisine.

All in all, it’s a great place to stay for both Business and Leisure and definitely one of my top choice of hotels in Johor.
